Variscite Simplifies AI/ML and Multimedia at the Edge with Python API for System on Modules

The Variscite Python API development centre has officially launched, according to Variscite, a well-known global designer and manufacturer of System on Modules (SoMs). For devices built on Variscite’s i.MX8-based SoMs, the pyvar Python API, also known as the Variscite Python API, makes it easier to construct machine learning and multimedia applications. The API makes it quicker and simpler for beginners to develop and programme embedded systems and smart/edge devices for AI/ML.

The development of embedded systems using cameras, sensors, displays, and user interfaces is made simpler by the Variscite Python API. Additionally, it offers a simple method for Cortex-A apps to operate and connect with Cortex-M applications for quick processing while consuming little power. The developer centre for the API offers ‘how to’ manuals, documentation, and short samples of source code.

“Capture, recognition, and processing of image, audio, and video data are increasingly used in embedded edge devices for any kind of environment, from transportation to healthcare, robotics, and agriculture“, “Our customers require additional AI/ML capabilities at the edge to run complex and advanced applications, and the Variscite python API enables faster and easier deployment with our i.MX8 SoMs.”

Ofer Austerlitz, VP Business Development and Sales of Variscite

In its i.MX 8-based System on Modules, Variscite provides a wide variety of performance, power consumption, price, and feature sets. Two highly scalable modules with integrated neural processing units and dedicated AI/ML capabilities are part of the company’s portfolio (NPU). The 1.8GHz Quad CortexTM-A53 NXP iMX8M Plus CPU and 800MHz Cortex-M7 real-time co-processor power the DART-MX8M-PLUS and VAR-SOM-MX8M-PLUS. Both SoMs are part of the Pin2Pin family from Variscite, which provide seamless scalability, a longer lifetime, as well as shorter development times, lower costs, and lower risk.
