Quectel announces ultra-compact LTE Cat.1 bis module to address mid-range IoT applications

The EG800Q-EU LTE Cat.1 bis wireless communication module industrial level, the newest addition to Quectel Wireless Solutions’ portfolio of LTE modules, was just released. Quectel Wireless Solutions is a leading provider of IoT solutions worldwide. The EG800Q-EU gives increased flexibility in IoT designs and enables a larger range of IoT use cases, especially for applications where size matters. It is an ultra-compact module in the LGA form factor.

The EG800Q-EU is an LTE-only module targeting consumers in the Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel markets with LTE FDD band coverage of B1/ 3 / 5 / 7 / 8 / 20 / 28. It is based on the Qualcomm® QCX216 LTE IoT modem from Qualcomm Technologies Inc. A range of high-performance IoT applications, such as smart utility metres, asset trackers, electric mobility, parking metres, and home automation, require the module’s ability to deliver a maximum downlink data rate of 10 Mbps while also prolonging battery life.

The EG800Q-Cat.1 EU’s bis support enables it to employ a single antenna, combining cost and performance and making the module the perfect choice for IoT terminals intended to be small and reasonably priced.

“We are very excited that our EG800Q-EU is one of the industry’s first Cat.1 modules based on the Qualcomm QCX216 LTE IoT Modem, a global Cat.1 bis modem optimized for low cost and energy efficiency”, “The module’s unrivaled advantages make it ideal for a multitude of mid-range use cases and deployment scenarios that require reliable, cost-effective communication solutions.”

The EG800Q-small EU’s form factor of 15.8 mm 17.7 mm 2.4 mm makes it simple for developers and integrators to create applications that are size-sensitive. Due to its cutting-edge LGA packaging, manufacturing for high volume applications may be entirely automated.

Additionally, the EG800Q-EU offers a wide range of industry-standard interfaces and Internet protocols, such as USB 2.0, UART, I2C, PCM, and USIM, which increases the module’s appropriateness for IoT applications like asset monitoring, remotely managed access (RMAC), and intelligent networking. When there is no GPS signal indoors, the module also supports DFOTA to enable automatic firmware upgrades and built-in Wi-Fi locating services.

Quectel provides a selection of high performance LTE Cat.1 antennas that considerably improve wireless connectivity to assist clients with their projects. IoT developers can cut the cost and time to market of their Cat.1 devices by combining the EG800Q-EU module with Quectel’s antennas and pre-certification services.
