Claude AI Becomes the First Assistant to Support Canva via MCP Integration

Canva users now have the ability to create, manage, and edit their designs simply by describing what they need to Claude AI, Anthropic’s conversational chatbot. This new integration expands Claude’s growing list of connected third-party tools and services, which already includes popular platforms like Figma, Notion, Stripe, and Prisma. Users no longer need to switch between different platforms to complete their tasks, as Claude can handle them directly through chat-based commands.

From today onwards, individuals using Claude AI can employ natural language instructions to execute a variety of design-related activities within their linked Canva account. These activities range from creating new presentations to resizing images and populating pre-built templates automatically. The integration also enhances workflow management by allowing users to search for keywords within Canva Docs, Presentations, and brand templates and generate summaries of this content directly in the Claude chat interface. To utilize this feature, users must maintain both a paid Canva subscription, which begins at $15 per month, and a paid Claude subscription, priced at $17 per month.

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which Canva just unveiled, is the technology enabling this partnership. Claude may safely access a user’s Canva files and material because to MCP, which maintains security. Often described as the “USB-C port of AI,” MCP is an open-source standard designed to simplify how developers link AI models with external applications and services. Industry giants like Microsoft, Anthropic, Canva, and Figma have adopted MCP, preparing their platforms for an AI-driven future dominated by interconnected agents.

According to Anwar Haneef, Canva’s head of Ecosystem, this partnership eliminates the need for uploading files or manually transferring ideas between platforms. Users can now generate, summarize, edit, review, and publish Canva designs entirely within a Claude chat, creating an AI-first workflow that merges creative and productivity tasks seamlessly. He noted that activating this feature is as simple as toggling an option in the settings menu.

Claude AI is the first assistant to fully support Canva design workflows via MCP, although Claude users also have access to design services from Figma through a separate integration announced last month. To make things more accessible, Anthropic is introducing a new integrations directory available on both desktop and web platforms. This directory allows users to easily view and manage all the connected tools and services integrated with Claude, further streamlining their productivity and creative processes through a single conversational interface.
